If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about my recent trip to Queenstown, and how much we had enjoyed having a really lovely break. You say, how nice, and when and where are you going next? I say we are still planning.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you about the Supper Club event we went to at Field & Green on Wednesday night. The theme was Harvest Moon, and all the produce was sourced within 75km of Wellington. I tell you that we started our meal with sparkling wine and good bread, and then ate a beautifully cured beef served with rainbow chard and a blueberry dressing, followed by a bourride (a fish stew) made with three different fish, and topped with fennel, rengamutu (New Zealand spinach) and sorrel. For dessert there was a blueberry Bakewell tart with lemon balm ice cream, and then a cider washed rind cheese from Remutaka Pass Creamery. Wine was all sourced from Alexia over in Greytown, with a Garage Project porter to have with the cheese. There was wonderful live music from Tristan Carter and Charley Davenport, who both often work with Java Dance Theatre. You say it all sounds very interesting and I say yes it was.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about what we are reading. I say I am enjoying the two books I have on the go at the moment, and that the Linn Ullmann one might be book of the year, though it is only just the start of April and I will read more books. It is a fictionalised account of her relationship with her parents (Ingmar Bergman and Liv Ullmann) and is fascinating reading. You say it sounds it and I send you a review. I have also been seeking cooking inspiration for the cooler days ahead, and you agree it will soon be time to make soup again.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about podcasts we had listened to recently. I said there are lots of really interesting episodes on ABC’s Conversations podcast and that I had enjoyed the interview with Luke from The Chocolate Bar who supplies us with all that lovely chocolate on the locally produced Pep Talk podcast. We agree that 99% Invisible is still a favourite.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea on this wet, autumn day I would look at the time…where has it gone? I offer you a gin and tonic, and of course you accept, and naturally you will stay for dinner like you always do. A good ending to the day.
