This week’s small pleasures #187

Another week in lockdown. New Zealand has a 4-level COVID-19 alert system, with each alert level telling the public what measures to take. We have been at Level 4 for three and a half weeks so far. Today our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, announced that we will move from Level 4 lockdown to Level 3 lockdown next Monday. This will go on for a further two weeks at least. What this means for us in our bubble will mean more things available to us by mail order (and take away pizza!), and a few people who can’t work at the moment will be able to return, under strict guidelines of course. This is good news for us here in New Zealand.

Even when not in lockdown, a lot of my small pleasures revolve around food as you know. Below you can see some of this week’s bread treats we had delivered from Arobake. We enjoyed a zopf for Sunday breakfast (the big picture), a flat bread with soup, a sour dough for weekday breakfasts and pain au chocolat also on Sunday. What lovely treats and small pleasures these were.

Pilates classes carry on, and I did a ballet barre class the other day, being very pleased no-one could see me but also finding quite a lot of ‘muscle memory’ coming into play as well. A new part of my lock-down weekend has been to watch the Royal New Zealand Ballet on Saturday afternoons, another small pleasure, though naturally would rather see them in the theatre.

The weekend always has some time for reading, accompanied by tea and scones. The scones below are made from spelt flour (with a few raisins) and come from fellow blogger Journey From a Polish Kitchen’s site. They were absolutely delightful, tasty as well as being light and fluffy.

So that is it for this week. Wherever you are, take care and look out for those little things that bring you joy in these strange times. What were your small pleasures of the week past?

Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.

  1. Lovely bread … but it is making me too hungry! I’m enjoying reading War & Peace with
#TolstoyTogether on Twitter. Second time … and enjoying it (after 30 years) even more than the first! I also love ballet, but can’t imagine getting my aged body to do anything now. Even if I could find a class!
