If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…well, we wouldn’t be in the same room. We would be chatting over Skype, and enjoying each other’s company virtually, for since yesterday we are at Level 4* in New Zealand, which means a total lockdown. We say how quiet things are, how peaceful our solitary walks are, but how frightening it is too.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the importance of social distancing and hand washing, and how much we are using technology to keep in touch. I tell you about my twice a day meetings with my work colleagues, and our Friday night virtual drinks meeting, and how important this social contact is, and you agree. We both wonder how we will feel at the end of the four weeks.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about cooking and about how there is plenty of food in the supermarkets, and that the panic buying was not necessary. I laugh and say that my dear husband is the nominated shopper**, and that he made a great job of getting what I wanted today, and am now looking for inspiration from my many books. You say, yes, that we are all cooking more and thinking more about what to cook, and being more thoughtful about what is important in general. The crisis is making us appreciate what is really important.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you I wish I had gone to the garden centre before the close down of all but non essential services. You say you are in the same position.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would raise our cups in friendship and remind ourselves to wash our hands and be kind. We are all in this together.
*This is the New Zealand Government’s Covid-19 Alert System.
**We have been recommended to have a nominated shopper for each household bubble to cut down on traffic to shops
And…this is also a public service message…from Wellington Paranormal, a NZ comedy series about policemen in Wellington…and well…paranormal activity.
