Here in the Southern Hemisphere we are transitioning from winter to spring. None of that ‘going back to school’ or end of summer here, but a joy that the days are getting longer and a sense that it is time to make plans.
This winter we have eaten a lot of good food, from the special delights of Hiakai, to my birthday at Logan Brown to wonderful toasts at Squirrel cafe to many good things during Wellington on a Plate. The latest was the wonderful, rich burger at Field and Green, topped with Kāpiti blue cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise on a Challah bun, with polenta and Parmesan fries. What a feast! Coming up we have dinner at Ortega Crab Shack and the joys of spring produce (asparagus anyone?)
While winter saw us busy with the Film Festival, dance performances, a holiday in New Caledonia and birthdays, spring sees some comedy, more dance performances, and lots of work trips. We also need to do some major clutter clearing in the kitchen (can I have another pantry shelf please?) and bedroom: spring cleaning in other words.
Winter should be a good time to read, curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea. I didn’t read quite as much as I thought I would do, but have great plans for the coming months. The book club at work has as its theme an author’s name beginning with ‘s’, and I have two in my to read pile to pick from. I’m hoping to get some family tree stuff done and try to get some more exercise in somehow.
The clocks change at the end of the month and then we are really into spring and summer. In the meantime, we can enjoy some blue skies, early tulips and the magnolia at the back of our house (the featured image above) and in the Botanic Gardens.
