Here we are again with a round up of this week’s small pleasures. Another 4-day weekend (Anzac Day, a day off work on Friday added to Saturday and Sunday) was, of course, a pleasure, and I feel like we made the most of the time to rest and rejuvenate. I read, I cooked, I went to Pilates, I read some more. We went to see the Scottish stand-up comedian, Danny Bhoy, and laughed until tears ran down our faces. The sun shone, we ate well and prepared ourselves for the week ahead.
In Friday’s post, I mentioned, briefly, that we drove over to Martinborough on Friday. It was a glorious, sunny and warm autumn day. Further pictures to come on Wednesday, but for now enjoy this beautiful sky and autumnal shades.

On Saturday, I tried out the new cafe, Squirrel, which has just opened on Blair Street, next door to the always interesting shop Small Acorns, and round the corner from where I go to Pilates. I’ve been looking for a new place to go close to where I now do Pilates on a Saturday, and this fits the bill exactly.

As regular readers know, I love going food shopping. This week I picked up the last of this season’s aubergines for a moussaka, walnuts and pears to enjoy with cheese, tomatoes while they last, a little kohlrabi and this interesting looking chocolate from Hogarth, buttered toast and sea salt (tasting note from Sunday….really good and very rich…you only need a tiny piece).

With the kohlrabi, I made a salad with carrots and topped it with basil and tamari roasted sunflower seeds. You can also check out more ideas over at Journey From A Polish Kitchen.

The featured image was taken at the view point on the hills when we went over to Martinborough.
And that’s it for this week. What were your small pleasures of the past week?
Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.
You can find Thistles and Kiwis on Facebook, and also on Instagram@thistleandkiwis. As for Twitter….am totally inactive these days. If you want to get in touch, email me on thistlesandkiwis@gmail.com
Glad you like the kohlrabi – a much-loved vegetable in Poland. Thank you for mentioning my recipes & blog.
