In the week following the attacks in Christchurch, the media has naturally been focussed on this tragic event. You have no doubt seen coverage yourselves. There was a two minute silence on Friday, and now the investigations begin.
At times like this it is even more important to consider the small things that bring pleasures into our lives. First up, flowers outside and in, such as these calla lilies. Always a small pleasure.
On Friday, one of my husband’s brothers visited us from Sweden. He was here for work, but stopped off to visit us and join us for dinner. It was so nice to see him and actually have family visit.
The colours of autumn can be seen in the vegetables on sale at the moment – the bright stems of red chard, the dark green of cavolo nero, the vibrant greens of kale and silver beet, orange pumpkins, pale golden butternut squash. Quickly stir fry the leaves with some chilli and garlic, make soup from the squash and enjoy the season.
I had time at the weekend to potter in the garden in the good weather, read, cook turkey and ricotta meatballs and rhubarb crumble…and do the ironing. It was so nice to have some switch off time.
That’s all for this week – what were your small pleasures?
Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.
