Well, what with feeling rotten for a good part of the week, the small pleasures have very much been based around how thankful I have been for those old staples, ginger and lemon, for helping to restore me to something resembling full health.

However, I did feel up to cooking, and on Saturday night made some salmon fishcakes with tartare sauce from Unna Burch’s The Forest Cantina – Home. This explains the potatoes at the top of the post, a vital, if not key ingredient to any fish cake. I used wood roasted salmon, and chives as, as usual, dill was not available (it is an elusive herb here).

They were so good, even though I say so myself. Just perfect comfort food for a chilly spring evening.
What else? Well, I am thoroughly enjoying Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians, and hoping the film is as good. Still riveted by Bodyguard over on BBC (written by Jed Mercurio, the mastermind behind Line of Duty), and quite enjoying over on Netflix a Finnish police drama Deadwind (Karppi) and a French ‘krimi’ La Mante Yes we do like our crime dramas!
Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.
