If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea, we would talk about the change in the weather, from skirts and bare legs one day to trousers and ankle boots the next as the rain came down and the southerlies blew. How last weekend we were in shorts, and this weekend have had to dig out a sweater, but that it was good to see the sun shining this Saturday afternoon.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea, Charlie would pop by to say hello.  We would remark how he loves to use the door mat as his scratch post, hence the state it is in.

If we were having coffee, or even a cup of tea, I would tell you about a wonderful piece of visual theatre I saw on Friday, Home, from theatre artist, Geoff Sobelle.  I would tell you that it was hard to describe, but that a house appears on stage, and that you see each room fill with generations of its inhabitants.  People move in and out, do laundry, take showers, make food, graduate, have parties. There was music from American folk-rock artist Elvis Perkins, and all sorts of things going on…from strings of lights draped above the heads of the audience in the stalls to quick changes and fantastic timing.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea I would show you these watermelon radishes.  We would taste a tiny bit, and gasp at how peppery they are!  We look for some recipes and decide that roasting or pickling were the two things to do.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say why don’t you stay for dinner?  It’s fish tacos tonight and there is plenty to go round.  And you would say yes.
