So here we are, Friday evening in New Zealand, and time to look back on a week that saw…well, lots of things. From yet another terrible shooting at a school in the US (honestly, who really thinks giving guns to teachers is a solution to the problem?) to the joy of New Zealand winning two bronze medals in the Winter Olympic games, it has certainly been a week!
1. Cyclone Gita
The cyclone that had already devastated Tonga, reached New Zealand. Wellington caught the tale end, with just a lot of rain, and some wind, but other parts of the country have really suffered with flooding, landslips and other destruction. Poor Kaikōura, which had 28% of the annual rainfall in 18 hours, was cut off again as a landslide blocked State Highway 1. Golden Bay’s only access road is still closed as I write, and New Plymouth was also badly hit.
If you follow Thistle and Kiwis on Instagram you will know I love tomatoes. They taste good, look good and are versatile in the kitchen. I was given a bowlful by our neighbour who was quickly gathering in his fruit before the storm (see the featured image at the top of the post). They taste so good too!
3. More weather
The sun has come out again! Need I say more?
4. Late summer blooms
If anyone knows what these flowers are, let me know. They bloom at the end of February and the beginning of March here in Wellington.
5. Home and Away
Karl went to Jakarta…and came home again.
6. Things to catch on YouTube
Catch The Mustards discussing networking.
