It’s Friday, and time for a glass of wine, something on Netflix (trying Good Witch for my after-work-forget-about-everything viewing). I’ve neglected the blog for a few days as I was travelling yet again for work, and have been feeling a little blue, a little down, and I’ve needed to cheer myself up.
The trips I do are on short flights within New Zealand, and for those of you who have to travel for work I am sure you all have your own coping tricks. These trips are not the usual long haul tips, but tips for people who have to fly for work on short, domestic flights, For me, I need a good book with a good story so that if there is turbulence (and believe me, that is a fact of life flying in New Zealand), you can immerse yourself and forget about the bumps. I recommend Donna Leon, Barbara Pym, Andrea Camilleri or any favourite writer or series.
Second, make use of the lounge. Seriously, having wifi (Auckland airport only gives you an hour if you are not in the Koru Lounge), free tea, coffee, wine, beer, sandwiches and corn fritters (yes!) and comfortable seats makes a difference.
Third, travel light, but pack an extra set of underwear as you never know what can happen. Even on a day trip, pack a toothbrush, as fog rolls in, earthquakes happen and flights get cancelled.
Fourth, some hotel rooms are better than others. Fact. Get to know the ones in the place you visit regularly, and try to book the same ones.
Fifth, treat yourself to good food if you can, pack a favourite body lotion, take the chance to pamper yourself if you can.
